Casapueblo is a four-star hotel located on a rocky bluff above the Atlantic Ocean 13 kilometers (8 miles) northwest of Punta Del Este. The word means “house-town.” Originally the home and workshop of the late Uruguayan artist and architect, Carlos Paez Vilaro (November 1, 1923-February 24, 2014), there are 10 floors and 56 guest suites with terraces. It serves as a museum and is open to the public, as well.

Vilaro designed Casapueblo. He began building it in 1958. Completion took 36 years.

The sprawling maze-like structure is constructed of whitewashed cement and stucco.

Vilaro’s murals, paintings, sculptures, etc. are displayed throughout the hotel.
